Dear Coach,
I have just started my senior year as of this draft and will update as appropriate. As the only '07 that did not graduate last June from my former club team I had to move clubs and am now at Albion, San Diego. We are playing GA (A). I was also recently named an Exact "All American". This designation is based on the college coaches I have worked with at Exact camps and is awarded to approximately 3% of all participants nation wide.
To let you know more about me you need to understand my family a bit. I come from a family of athletes. My father was a nationally ranked track and field athlete at San Diego State after first being recruited and being a redshirt on their baseball team as well as an invited walk-on to the soccer team as a GK (he played for George Logan, former USMNT U20 Coach and founding coach of the SDSU men's team). My uncle was a walk on track and field athlete at SDSU. My great uncle played in the NFL. My great grandfather and his brothers are in the Long Beach, CA athlete hall of fame for football and water polo from the early 1900's. My sister was one of the most highly recruited GKs out of San Diego in the class of 2010 eventually accepting to San Jose State. In short, my family is very competitive.
I have taken leadership positions from elementary school to present. I have given TedTalks that included a presentation at PetCo Park, the stadium where the Padres play. I was on the Leadership team in middle school and am now involved with the high school class student counci. My club team voted me as a team captain the first year our team went to full season captains.
My favorite subjects in school have been History and English. I have taken Honors World History and Honors English. I earned "A's" in both classes. Junior year History, and my freshman year Geography which was a combination of history/sociology/geography and politics, have been my favorite academic classes this far in my high school career although I do very much love my creative writing assignments in Honors English. As a junior I also studied biology, sports medicince, and then advanced sports medicine earning "A's" in all courses.
You will see that I list, "semi-competitive shooting" on my biography. This is probably very rare for you to see in a biography, especially for a California based soccer player. My Dad grew up shooting and taught me very early the importance of firearms safety. Since then I have trained with not just Navy SEALs, but the actual instructors that train the Navy SEALs. That experience has been amazing and very competitive in itself. I find that my shooting translates to playing GK as my hand-eye coordination is sharpened. If I can hit a target 200 yards away I can track a size 5 soccer ball coming at me from 30 yards out.
Under the racial/ethnic heritage section I put, "other". I was unsure exactly how to answer as the dropdown menu did not really have an accurate listing. My background is mixed. My father is German/Greek/Scotch. My mother is Irish/Filipina. As such I am a "White/Asian/Pacific Islander" mix.
I look forward to hearing from you and promise to give you everything I have if given the opportunity to play at the next level.
Sincerely,
Jamie Miller
