My name is Marissa Staton, and I am a member of the class of 2025 from Wiregrass Ranch High school in Wesley Chapel, Florida. Soccer has been my absolute passion since I first kicked a ball at the age of 5, it's been my entire world ever since. My biggest goal ever since I was little is to play soccer at the Colligate level.
Balancing the intensity of soccer with the importance of school has always been beyond important to me. It's not just about the game for me; it's about the growth that comes with being both an athlete and a student. I take pride in excelling not only on the field but also in the classroom.
One of the toughest chapters of my soccer journey. In August of 2022, I faced a major setback when I tore my ACL. Being sidelined for a whole year was incredibly challenging, but it turned out to be a game-changer for me. I embraced the opportunity to coach a little girls' team, sharing my love for soccer and staying connected to the game even when I couldn't play. Cheering on my team from the sidelines kept my spirits high.
Team culture is everything to me. It goes beyond the victories and defeats; it's about building sisterhood and a strong support system. During my recovery, the camaraderie with my teammates played a vital role in keeping me motivated and pushing through the tough times.
Fast forward to September 2023, and I made my comeback to the field. Overcoming the adversity of that ACL injury wasn't just a physical feat; it tested my mental toughness and resilience. Now, I stand stronger than ever, ready to take on new challenges, both on and off the field. Soccer isn't just a game for me; it's a journey of growth, resilience, and unwavering determination.
