Personal Statement

Although I grew up playing softball, Taekwondo, and swimming competitively, something about soccer interested me and I decided to give it a try.  After my very first recreational soccer practice, I walked off that field knowing was born to be a goalkeeper.  That was six years ago, and my love of soccer, especially goalkeeping, has only grown.  This year as a junior, I have earned GHSA AA Pre-Season AA All-State honors.  Last year, I earned Pre-Season All-State Honorable Mention for Keeper, was the exclusive goalkeeper, received All-Region Defensive Player of the Year, and Varsity Defensive MVP.  I also earned The Telegraph & Macon.com Girls Spring Athlete of the Year.

I play club soccer for AFC Lightning's 04/05 DPL team.  Along with my varsity and club teams' scheduled practices, I joined Southern Crescent Goalkeeping Academy to further develop as a goalkeeper.

I want to make sure I can play beyond high school, and I know I must be fully committed to putting in the work and dedication necessary to make that happen on the field and in the classroom.  I attend The Academy for Classical Education and take honors courses.  Currently, I am interested in a career in graphic design.  I have always loved drawing and connecting with others through art. I am excited to continue taking classes is these fields over the next few years to help me determine which I will ultimately decide.

For me, the love of soccer makes athletic and academic dedication, hard work, and commitment natural components of the game, and I am not afraid to put in the extra work to see that my aspirations of playing in college become a reality.

From my high school varsity coach, Robby Jones: "Gracie is a self-starter and a very hard worker. She can often be found staying late for extra practice or picking up extra days to improve her craft. She excels at knowing when to come off her line to close the angle and challenge attackers one on one."

  • ActivitiesWhile soccer is a huge part of my life, serving my community is also very important. After speaking to one of the local school homeless coordinators, my sister and I co-founded a community outreach called “Books, Bears, Love and Care” to promote childhood literacy and provide homeless children with basic needs. Through our program, we collect (and purchase with our own money) age-appropriate books, teddy bears, socks, and toiletries that the homeless coordinators leave with the children during their in-person visits. To date, with have donated more than 500 books and 200 stuffed animals, and 250 pairs of socks. I welcome you to visit our Facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/BooksBearsLoveCare ). I am also involved with my church's ministries and I love playing around with graphic design and animation.
