2017 HighlightsSoccer has always had a huge impact on my life. I have been playing the beautiful game since the early age of three. For as long as I can recall, my passion has been playing soccer. There has hardly been a moment when I haven’t had the ball at my feet. Soccer has taught me a lot about myself. It has helped mold the person that I am today. It helped me discover interpersonal skills that have guided my success on and off the field. I learned some essential skills and traits such as learning to work on a team. It taught me how to listen, how to adapt, and how to apply the lessons that were taught to me. I was shown compassion and that admiration helped instill the leadership abilities that I carry with me to this day.
In high school I’ve learned to continue to redefine who I am. There are different challenges such as balancing my academics and sports. I have been a varsity starter and captain since my freshmen year. This has motivated me to work harder for not only myself but for my teammates. Being named as a starter and a captain is definitely a humbling experience. I am also on the varsity team for both the cheer program and softball team for our school. Overall I feel as if I am a well-rounded individual. Making a difference to the community and my peers is also important to me. For the past two years I have been involved with Future Hispanic Leaders of America (FHLA) and Random Acts of Kindness club. I have learned to reach out to others to inspire them and to network with our school administration and other youths in our school. I am involved in helping to organize breast cancer awareness activities with the Susan G. Komen Foundation. I volunteer and coordinate free youth soccer camps. I also volunteer with Rake-Up Nampa, an event where we rake up yards for local seniors. I coached a recreational 6th grade soccer team this past fall season and I will continue to coach them in the spring. This has provided me an opportunity to learn to work with younger children and apply some of the same values that I have learned as a student athlete. I learned to work and communicate effectively with parents as well as other coaches. This was one by far one of my most memorable experiences in the soccer community.
My academics are very important to me and have always been my top priority. I strive to maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher and earn academic awards. I push myself towards taking challenging classes that will better prepare me for college such as advanced placement (AP) courses. In regards to college I plan to pursue a degree in Education or as an athletic trainer. Whichever path I choose, I know that I will be able to give back to others. I believe that I have the talent, the work-ethic, and determination to achieve academic success. I plan to enroll in a college that is an ideal fit for me academically. I’m very passionate about soccer and hopefully I’m able to continue to play at the collegiate level. I know that wherever I am accepted, I will do my very best.
