My name is Katy Quinn, and I am an 11th grade honor student at Normal Community High School. NCHS has more than 2,100 students and is located in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. I am a dedicated student scoring a 33 on the ACT and maintaining a 5.3 grade point average in my advanced and AP courses.
I am a 3-year starting outside back for NCHS, and was awarded all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore. In 2017, we were Regional Champions and Sectional Finalists competing in the largest school division in Illinois. Our record was 22-3-0 with 19 shutouts, 120 goals scored with 8 goals against.
I am a starting outside back on the Illinois Fire Juniors 00G Premier (formerly IL Fusion) club team. Our accomplishments include:
- 2017 National President’s Cup Championship - 2nd place
- Fall 2017 - 18-3-2, 17 shutouts, 73 goals / 10 goals against
- MRL Division Champions - 8-0-0, 7 shutouts, 31 goals / 1 goal against
- Illinois State Cup Semifinalists - 4-2-0, 2 shutouts, 21 goals / 7 goals against
My commitment, work ethic, and leadership on and off the field are defining traits. I train long, hard, and smart so that in each and every game I am ready to compete at the highest level for 90 minutes. I never give up on a play.
I am recognized for my athleticism, passing skills, and ability to start the attack after winning the ball. I am an exceptional 1v1 defender and work hard to perfect my timing on tackles. I am also a student of the game and believe my decision making and soccer intelligence give me an additional competitive advantage.
I have made numerous close relationships with players and coaches. Some of these relationships continue years later and many miles away. Soccer has also taught me invaluable life skills. I have learned how to be a true teammate and stay supportive even when things are not going our way. I also love soccer because it has reinforced the value of hard work as I track progress towards my goals. I am drawn to the sport for these reasons, and ultimately because I just love to play soccer.
As I reflect and evaluate my potential as a soccer player, I think about what my teammates and coaches would say. My teammates would describe me as an incredibly dedicated player who leads by example. I devote hours of extra work every week on skills and conditioning to make myself, and ultimately the team better. My teammates would also say that I help everyone focus on achieving our team goals. My coaches would say that there is no one that works harder, and that I am a team leader both on and off the field.
Soccer has meant so much to me and I am excited for the opportunity to continue this journey in college. I want to attend a university known for academic excellence and competitive soccer program where hard work is valued and teammates become life-long friends. I look forward to playing for a coach that will challenge and inspire me as a soccer player, teammate, and student-athlete.
