My name is Monique Sandoval. I am a Senior at Riverside Brookfield High school. A big thing you should know about me is that it takes time for me to fully feel comfortable around people. What I am looking for after high school is to get into college and continue soccer. This has always been my goal since I became a freshman. I am very interested in photography and film. I plan on majoring in either of these options. I will keep my options open on what else to major in. I love pursing in photography and I hope I can take some great photos of my new team.
I started soccer when I was 4 or 5 years old. I started playing for my local recreation team and I had realized that I loved playing the sport. It made me happy seeing I was putting in my own work. After a while, my parents put me in a club called Chicago Inter. The club is gone now so I then went to Berwyn Blazers to play with them. Joining club soccer I started to doubt myself and my abilities. I knew joining club was going to be more competitive for me. I then put a lot of work into playing soccer. I came to every practice to got better with my footwork. Playing with Berwyn Blazers I noticed my stamina was getting a lot better. I got really excited to see my progress and know that it will continue on. What I am looking in for a college is a competitive community that will allow me to push myself. I also want a college that is supportive of who I am as a person and doesn’t bring me down. What I can give you on the field is giving great passes and assists. My crosses are always there for the players to score a goal.
In school, I am always an A and B student. Having an IEP really put a mental barrier for me in school and soccer. I learned to overcome my difficulties and feel more confident in myself for trying harder as I continue my life. For the most part, I do put my academics first but soccer will always be my priority.
