2018 Young Harris...
2019 St. FX Unive...My name is Alyssa Spridgeon. I have completed 3 years of eligibility between USports and NCAA DII institutions, with 1 year remaining for NCAA or 2 for USports competition. I am currently completing my fifth year as an Honours Psychology student at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS and am hoping to pursue a graduate-level degree in Social Work (MSW) come Fall 2022.
I am highly driven and have a strong work ethic, both on and off the pitch. I take pride in my academics and have received several appointments to the Dean's List and Academic All-Conference/All-Canadian teams over the course of my studies. Furthermore, I consistently challenge myself to improve in each training session and through the habits I take on in my own time (extra training, strength training, nutrition). I strive to be a positive leader for my teammates whether it's leading by example, elevating standards in training and games, uplifting others, supporting teammates off the pitch, and creating a positive (but competitive!) bond through the "keeper union".
As a student-athlete who has a few years of post-secondary level playing experience, I can contribute mature and composed leadership on the field, as well as experienced goalkeeping. Some of my strengths on the field include my communication, confidence in 1 v 1 scenarios, and my playing style as a "sweeper-keeper."
Off the field, I value service and happily involve myself in numerous community service projects. Most recently, I founded the Xaverian Pen Pal Project to combat social isolation and loneliness amidst the pandemic. I received a year-long leadership grant from the McKenna Centre for Leadership and also managed a team of over 200 volunteer pen pals, working with numerous community partners to pair pen pals (particularly senior citizens with students). I've also volunteered as a coach for several female youth soccer teams and recently received the Isherwood MacDonald Youth Coach Award 2021. Additionally, I am heavily involved in sexual violence prevention and education work on campus, along with a role as a Peer Support Program shift leader, supporting students who are impacted by mental health/sexual violence.
I would love to speak with you, learn about your team, and discuss how I can contribute to your team's success!
