I can’t imagine my life without soccer. For as long as I can remember, it has been a dream of mine to continue playing after high school. A lot of who I am and what I have done has been focused on this dream.
I am:
Committed. I have played for the same club since I was 6 years old. I prioritise team training over mostly everything else in my life. I never miss training and I give 100% effort on the field 100% of the time. I attended every practice for the entirety of the 2021 outdoor season. I was there less than 24 hours after wrist surgery, watching, because I can’t stand the thought of missing a moment. I will always be ready for more time on the field and the ball.
A Leader. I am a leader on my soccer team and at school. Being a leader is putting others first and being a positive role model for those around me. In practice, I model respectful behaviour towards my coach and teammates, and I ask questions when appropriate. On the field, I look to make decisions that benefit my team, not myself. As a soccer coach of younger children, I run sessions, help develop their skills, and share my enthusiasm for soccer. At school, I have taken on different extracurriculars that focus on building community. I also provide social and academic mentoring to younger students. Continuing to grow as a leader is important in all aspects of life.
A Competitor. I compete to win. My high school soccer team has won all 3 years that I have played for them and I have been given different awards for my contributions. Prior to COVID, I captained my club team to victory of the Provincial Indoor Soccer League. I am excited to play in a competitive college environment,
Performance Oriented. I recognize that there is a lot more to being a good soccer player than just technical skill. Over the last few years, I have worked with a nutritionist to improve my habits to ensure that my body is able to function at a high level. I regularly see an athletic trainer where we work on strength, stamina, and injury prevention. I have done this work independent from my team. I regularly make time to work on my individual ball mastery skills. I know that my body is ready to handle the intensity of college soccer.
Intelligent and Mature. In addition to soccer, I have always been very focused on my academics and am a good student. I am able to take on a lot of responsibilities and manage them all. This past semester I had to balance my school work, a job with increasing responsibilities, the varsity soccer team, my own competitive soccer team, 6 committees at school, and a full course load. I am confident that I will thrive both academically and athletically in a college soccer environment.
Overall, I am a well-rounded, team player and I am so excited to start the next chapter of my life!
