Hi my name is Krystal Fernandes. I am 17 years old and I am from Toronto,Ontario. I have been playing soccer for the last 11 years. I am currently in grade 12 and I attend St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School which is located in Pickering.
I played for my highschool junior team (grade 9 & 10) and I was one of the Captains. I was the leading scorer for the season with 8 goals and 4 assists leading my team into the playoffs. I also currently played on the senior soccer team this year and was the leading scorer with 7 goals and 2 assists. We won LOSSA and headed to OFSAA, where we tied 3 games and won one. I scored a tying goal at OFSAA to secure us 1 point in the last few minutes of the game.
My goal is to play at the university or college that I attend. School is very important to me and I love learning . My overall average is 91%. I graduated Grade 8 with honors and received two awards and I finished Grade 9,10 and 11 with honors as well.
After high school, when I am on my way to university I would love to pursue a career in Media more specifically sports media. I would love to go into this path based of my love for sports. I am very athletic and have participated on many of my elementary school teams such as the volleyball team, Basketball team, flag football team, soccer team, cross country team and track and field team. In Highschool, I have been apart of the juniors soccer team in grade 10, the varsity basketball team in grade 11 as well as the senior girls soccer team in grade 11, the senior girls basketball team in grade 12 and currently the senior girls soccer team in grade 12
I started playing soccer when I was 6 years old and have loved it ever since. I started in House league then did 6 years of REP, a couple months of CSL and played four years of OPDL . I played CSL for a couple of months to work on my game and get back to the OPDL level after a tough season. I chose to go to CSL to improve on specific parts of my game. I wanted every aspect of my game to be as strong as possible because I know I can play at a high level. Going to CSL really made me work on what I want to achieve and finally I worked my way up and am played for an OPDL team. After being discouraged by the coach due to my size and how short and small I am, I decided to take a break this past season to work on my body and build more strength. After doing that I have seen a big change in my game, I have always been able to play no matter how small I was but now I’ve seen that I am able to push other players down and hold my own ground and it has just made my game way better. I really thank that coach a lot for discouraging me and always putting me down because it motivated me to try and make myself a better player.
I am very coachable and always wanting to get better. I play as a winger or Striker but I am also a very well rounded player and can play multiple positions such as a Winger, Midfielder, Striker and goalkeeper. I have done goalie training in the past and have played many games for my team when our starting goalie wasn’t available. As a winger I am able to create plays with the midfield and beat fullbacks 1v1 to cross the ball and create a scoring opportunity. As a midfielder I have a very good playmaking ability and I have a very high IQ for the game. As a Strike I am able to finish crosses from the wingers as well as get behind the defence with speed for through balls from the midfield and win 1v1 battles for scoring chances.
Soccer is a huge part of my life and has taught me so much over the years, such as sportsmanship, responsibility, time management, the importance of commitment and teamwork and the importance of not letting anyone put you down.
I really wanna play college soccer and I am open to any division but I believe I would best fit at a U Sports, D1 or D2 school. Playing soccer at a school that is good both athletically and academically has always been my dream.
