Personal Statement

My goal is to play soccer at a very high level for a college that has a strong athletic and academic program. It is also my dream to play for Canada’s national team. I know this is a big goal but I can achieve it with hard work, the right attitude and support from my family and coaches.

I would be a very good candidate for a Division 1 college team because I am a good soccer player with strong technical and athletic ability. I am consistently identified as a top tier player with high potential by my coaches. For example, in September 2014, I was selected to be part of the Ottawa Fury FC’s Elite Girls Academy after 4 region-wide tryouts. About 22 elite players in the 15, 16 and 17 age groups were selected to create one combined elite team with “the highest quality players” from the region. (www.ottawafuryfc.com)

In March 2014, I was chosen as ODP U14G National Select Player at the ODP National Camp held in Tampa, FL. At the end of the camp, ODP Coach Goodman, wrote this in my evaluation:  “technically and tactically sound”; “can beat her player off the dribble and distributes the ball well”; “plays both sides of the ball – a ball winner who re-gains possession for her team”. “Very coachable”; “good work ethic”; “showed leadership” and “has a lot of potential to play at a high level” (copy available)

I am physically fit and agile. My coaches tell me that I am light on my feet, have a great first touch, and can switch direction on a dime. I know how to use my body and speed to advantage in winning possession for my team and quickly distributing the ball around the field.

Besides my physical ability, what makes me a valuable soccer recruit is my mental strength. My coaches tell me that I am an intelligent player with game awareness and good vision.  I can anticipate options and opportunities and make good decisions under pressure. I also have a calm personality and can stay positive and focused when the team is down.

My best quality is my desire to learn and grow as a soccer player and be the best soccer player I can be. That’s why I tried out for my high school TIER 1 Junior boy’s team, this year. I made the team and am the only girl in the Boys league. I play with U14 and U15 boys in the National Capital Secondary School’s Boys League. (highlight video available soon). This shows that I am willing to step out of my comfort zone to become a better player and person.

Besides soccer, I am also a competitive rugby player for Ashbury College’s girl’s team. Ashbury has a strong AAAA rugby program. In April 2014, we won silver in the CAIS National Girls’ Rugby Championships and Silver in the City Championships. I play both offensive and defensive positions as scrum half (~quarterback), full back or wing.

I would also be a good college recruit because I am strong academically. My average is 92% (in the enriched Pre-IB track) with As in all my subjects. I was valedictorian of my class in Junior High. I also have leadership qualities. I was Captain of my U15G Ottawa Fury soccer team in 2013-2014 and was also Captain of my sports teams at school and was Grade 9 rep on my House Council.
