My name is Taya-Reese Johnson. I am a 5’2 centerback from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. I currently attend St. Roch Catholic Secondary School and am in the Regional Arts Program as a vocal major. I have a 3.92 GPA. This past year, I was a starting left defender for my high school’s varsity girls soccer team that competes at the ROPSSAA D1 level. My club team, Dixie Athletics Girls 2004, plays in the Golden Horseshoe League.
I take pride in my natural leadership skills, maturity, and work ethic and I believe that those 3 characteristics will be my main assets to a university or college team. I have been captain of my club team since 2016. Knowing others look up to me and that I need to set an example for my fellow teammates on and off of the field has always motivated me to be the best student-athlete and all-around individual I can be. My mindset on the field, in the workplace and in everyday social situations illustrates the maturity I possess. I learned very early on how to use criticism to my advantage, to not take it personally and that being able to communicate with others is important, as effective communication between an athlete and their coach is required to have an understanding of each other.
I am interested in attending a school in the United States of America because I have always been enticed to experience living and studying somewhere other than Canada. Adapting to a new environment can bring me new experiences to hold onto for a lifetime. I plan on majoring in either Law or Psychology and minoring in French. I’d like to play for a team where I’d make an immediate impact. Despite not knowing which level of university/ college athletics I want to play at, I want to attend a school that is a challenge for me both academically and athletically.
