My name is Ashley Laycook. I’m 5’6” and weigh 120 pounds. I consider myself to be a quick, strong technical player with an outstanding vision for the game. I'm comfortable with both feet and have a strong work rate. My goal is to continue to compete at a high level when I get to college.
I’m a Senior at Archbishop Spalding High School, in Severn, Maryland. Spalding competes in the IAAM "A" Conference against other private schools in the Baltimore area. We were Champions my Junior Year and Finalist my Sophomore year. I am a versatile player on the field. Last season, I played both as a striker and winger on our varsity team. This season I look to contribute by playing both left and right back. I also play club soccer, as a forward and outside back on the Pipeline ECNL-RL U19 team. I have been a member of the Leadership group my Junior and Senior Year and have also served as Captain for my club team.
In addition to my athletic accomplishments, I have a 3.5 GPA. Something unique about me is that I am dyslexic. Despite my dyslexia, I have persevered to maintain my GPA and honor roll. While having a learning difference can be challenging, I have learned to embrace my strengths and creative thinking to find successes in the classroom and on the field. I am quite involved in campus activities, including service projects for our local community.
A fun fact about me is that I played goalie for a number of years prior to making a switch to field player in 2022. My Freshman year, I was one of only two freshmen that earned a spot on the varsity team for Archbishop Spalding. The soccer program at Spalding is one of the best in the nation. We are consistently ranked in the top 25 and play an extremely competitive schedule. My freshmen year, we were ranked in the top 10 nationally for the majority of the season. As a sophomore, we earned a spot in the Championship game of the IAAM "A" Conference. This year, we are Division Champions! We have an awesome Head Coach, Ashly Kennedy who is also the Head Coach of the USLW Annapolis Blues. She earned IAAM Coach of the Year last season and USLW Coach of the year this Summer. She is very demanding and pushes to get the best out of us.
I truly love this sport, and the relationships and skills I have built along the way. I look forward to the opportunity to continue to grow and develop my skills in college.
