Starting at a young age, I have always enjoyed playing sports. My parents signed me up for summer camps, introducing me to many different sports. The one sport I connected with the most throughout those camps was soccer. My parents got me involved in soccer through Park and Rec. While playing, I always had an edge when on the field. I remember telling my parents halfway through my soccer season that I wanted more out of playing. I wanted to play against other soccer players who were just as competitive, if not more competitive as I was. By the end of my 4th-grade year, I began playing travel soccer, instantly fell in love with the sport, and knew I wanted to play at the college level.
I have worked hard to achieve a balance between my academic and extracurricular activities and have been successful in both. While in high school, I have been a three-sport athlete. Soccer, basketball, and track have taught me lessons not only on the field, court, and track but also lessons about life. I’ve had to learn how to manage school, work, practices, and games successfully. Being a part of a team has taught me how to work with others while learning about adversity and the importance of leadership.
Throughout my years of playing soccer, my peers and coaches have recognized me as a strong leader. My coaches have appreciated my calm, under-pressure approach on the field. My peers have awarded me “Most Valuable Defender” for three years. I was voted Captain my Junior year. In my senior year, I was awarded the “Big 9 Scholar” award for maintaining a GPA of 3.8, and I also received the “Coaches Award.”
I am a hard worker and coachable. When not in season, I continue to work on my soccer skills. I’ve played travel soccer throughout high school and worked with a personal trainer this past summer, who helped me take my workouts to the next level. I was determined to get stronger, so I was prepared to hold my own on the field. By staying focused, I had one of the best seasons of my high school career this year. My hard work showed on the field; I earned a starting spot on varsity and was recognized for my tenacity, grit, and focus.
