After experiencing a setback this last fall which caused me to miss most of my sophomore season, I was tasked with the difficult decision of deciding whether I wanted to continue playing the sport I love. Thinking about my life without soccer, I realized it was one of the few things in my life that brings me such immense happiness. I couldn't imagine my life without it and I certainly wasn't ready to quit playing anytime soon, due to a fractured nose followed by surgery. This was when I realized I wanted to play in college. Of course, academics always comes first for me, as does making sure the school I choose has rigorous courses that will benefit my career path. In my beginning years of playing, I learned how to deal with losses and the importance of learning from my mistakes as a player which translated well into my academic career as I progress through high-school. I have also had the unusual experience of being taught by different coaches every single year and through this I've realized the significance of different view points in such a subjective game. There are many ways to play this beautiful sport and through the process of becoming coachable I have grown accustomed to almost every strategy, but at the same time I remain eager to learn more on how to improve my game. The opportunity of being on a team as a captain has served me well, but more crucial to my experience was learning on a team as a player. Through this I learned how positive leadership affects a team and more importantly the role the every player plays on the field. Positive leadership comes from respect and team compatibility and through positive leadership great seasons commence.
