My name is Sophie Dissa and I am from Tanzania and the United States. I have been playing soccer since I was around 5 years old and love the sport. Mostly I have lived overseas- I was born in Kenya, and lived for 5 years in South Africa, 3 years in Angola and 3 years in Indonesia. I have been really fortunate for what these experiences have given me. I love soccer not just because I love playing it, but also because it's always been a huge part of the cultures where I've lived, most of my family plays it, and being a part of a team is like having a second family. This is my first year playing soccer in the US and playing for the Missoula Strikers is a great opportunity to play competitively before college. When I'm not playing soccer, I enjoy making art, playing piano, spending time in nature and hanging out with friends. I also work at the local ice cream shop. I enjoy challenging myself in school. I really like learning about biology, graphic design, english and painting. In college I hope to play soccer, and study in a field where I can combine art and english in the social sciences. After graduating college, I hope to return overseas, in a career that allows me to continue to learn and pursue my passions.
I am a great team player who is focused and motivated. I encourage and support my teammates to achieve success on and off the field. This was my first year playing for a US high school team and I was chosen by my teammates to receive the Captain's Award. Throughout my years playing soccer, coaches have always talked about how coachable I am; I value and apply their advice and consistently have a positive attitude. I would be a great candidate for any team.
