Elena Barrett '23 Recruiting Profile

You will find I have a true passion for the sport of soccer, I have been playing since I was 8 years old. One of my goals is to play in college while looking to become a Commercial Airline Pilot. Over the years, I have worked with some incredible coaches that have taught me the importance of speed of play and how to quickly transition the ball to find amazing opportunities on the field as a Defensive and Attaching Center Midfielder.

Currently, I play year round for two different club teams.  I play for both WAZA FC (Coach LaMarr Peters out of Ithaca NY) as well as for BC United's 04/05 EDP / DPL team out of Binghamton NY under Coach Paul Marco.  We are part of the US Youth Soccer North Atlantic EDP League.   Currently also  playing in the local College League for WAZA FC out of Ithaca NY against local Varsity, JV  and club College teams (Cornell, Ithaca College, Cortland State etc.)

You will also find me at many showcase events such as CASL, Loudon, FC Delco, Jeff Cup and DPL Showcases.  

I was brought up to Varsity in 9th grade for my High School Soccer Team, ranked 10th in the state for 2020, out of all the teams in Class B, and out of 11 sections.

When I am not in school learning or playing soccer, you will find me either focused on building my HuggyBox brand or at flying lessons. When I was 11 years old I had an idea to help keep families and friends connected by offering a design I created called HuggyBox, where I went and interviewed several local factories to have my product brought to life. I was featured on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna to show how I was supporting front line workers during the Coronavirus Pandemic. I raised money through HuggyBox sales to make a donation to CDP (Center Disaster for Philanthropy). Addtionally, I donate much of my proceeds to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption to help other adopted children in foster care ( I was adopted myself from Russia).

My second passion is flying planes. I began taking flying lessons a few years ago and I am on track to take my solo flight  My goal is to get my private pilot's license before I attend college to complete my Aviation Degree.
