My sophomore year of varsity soccer was the highlight of my high school career. We had just received a new coach with an attitude and mindset Monticello had yet to experience. This coach put a significant amount of time and effort into our team and he influenced my passion for this sport. Not only did he help develop our skills on the field, but he taught us how to present ourselves off the field. He taught my team the importance of good work ethic, and showed us what it took to win. Monticello girls varsity soccer won 4 games that season after not having one win the past few seasons.
My sophomore year was definitely the most influential in my athletic career. However, I believe I grew the most after that season had ended. Monticello received a new coach for my junior year. Unfortunately, my team experienced a downfall and reverted back to our well known record of one win, if that. Despite the tough circumstances, my previous coach had lit a fire in me that I did not know I had. I was fortunate enough to begin playing club soccer with players from other schools and attend soccer camp over the summer. Now, as I am about to go into my senior year, I am learning how to be a leader for under class-men on my team, rise against any beliefs about my school, and carry the same mindset and motivation I learned my sophomore year.
