Personal Statement
My main goal during my soccer career so far has always been to make it to a higher level, and as I continue to gain more confidence in my play, I want to show anyone and everyone who is watching what I can do. I started in club soccer later than a lot of girls. As of August 2021, I’ve been playing club soccer for five years at NC Fusion (formerly Greensboro United Soccer Association), starting on a Select/Challenge level team and working my way up through Classic 2nd, Classic 1st, and Premier to get to my current level which is ECNL Regional League. My confidence has grown so much in these five years. I have learned that if I really want something, I know that I am capable of achieving it through hard work. Because I started in club later than most other girls, I would always go to whatever optional practices my club would hold and would work a ton on my own at home. Early on, players that were better than me and groups of girls from other teams that knew each other would be at the optional training, while I would be the only one that would show up from my team. Now that I have gone through those trainings and received guidance from a lot of the club coaches, I have gotten much more confident by learning from and fixing my mistakes.
My academic goals for high school are to maintain and A or A-B average and in college I want to stay on top of my classes and possibly become a Geneticist or something like that in the medical field.
I have definitely had to overcome obstacles to get to where I am now. Towards the beginning my challenge was having to train extra hard to try and catch up to girls I was playing with. Another major obstacle was breaking my ankle in Fall 2018. I was out for around 3 months and by 4 months I worked my way back into things and was actually starting to play like I had before my injury. My goal in this situation was to come out of my injury and train not to be where I was when I got hurt, but to be better. I feel like I've done that.
Some unique characteristics I have include having great eyes on the field. I can see where I need to be to improve the play and help my teammates, and even where others could be to impact our team play. I’m also pretty fast and move very well off of the ball. I can make runs to the corner and get crosses in, and I can also handle the ball 1v1 and take it to goal. I still think that my most valuable characteristic is that I refuse to be outworked.
