I am now in my junior year of high school at Franklin Academy High School which is a 2A charter high school, I work hard on and off the fields to manage a steady GPA above a 3.5. Since freshman year I’ve been in Honors Classes and next year I will be taking three AP courses. I’ve struggled with the balance of student and athlete especially during high school soccer season but I keep pushing myself to do better and I’ve learned over the years what it takes to better myself academically.
I’ve been playing soccer for almost ten years and through those early years coaches have seen me as a goalkeeper and a field player but I saw myself more as a field player so I played both. My freshman year of high school soccer I was one of the leading scorers and one of the leaders in assists. Beginning of my sophomore year, we were down a goalkeeper, a lot of seniors, and coaching staff and with new freshmen with more elite training than me so I made the sacrifice to benefit my team from the goalkeeper position. I dropped the position I loved for my team. My coach asked me to make that sacrifice and with more time I started to love being a goalkeeper more. I worked double time to catch up with all the years of goalkeeping training I’ve missed, getting training and finding exercises and drills I could do on my own. Sophomore year I won all conference and all region and I’m still working hard to better myself whether it’s with more training or nutrition.
