Personal Statement
My dream has always been to play soccer in college. I started playing at 3 years old! Through the years I fell in love with a sport that has challenged me, brought me to new heights as an athlete, and made me appreciate the level of dedication it takes to succeed. I would consider it an honor and privilege to be part of a women's collegiate soccer team. I do feel I have been blessed with natural athletic abilities and come from a long line of athletes. My paternal great-grandfather played collegiate football at Georgia Tech. My grandfather was a number one draft pick by the Phillies out of high school, and his brother played collegiate football at SMU. My father also played collegiate baseball at Tusculum College, and although I may have inherited my athleticism I do not take it for granted. My mentor and favorite soccer coach once said, "Give me an athlete who is out on the pitch working hard to get better over someone with natural talent EVERYDAY OF THE WEEK." Living in a small-town in NC, my options for club soccer were limited. Our small club did not have the numbers to offer the highest level of play. We barely had numbers to make a team for my age. I had to play up with girls two years older until my family and I decided to make the commitment and travel outside our small town to provide me the best opportunities to grow as a player. My parents drove four days a week to Charlotte, NC (which was at least a 1 hour 15 minute commute and sometimes even more) so that I could play ECNL. Often times we would not get home until 10pm or after, and I had to juggle homework assignments and maintain my grades while continuing to dedicate my time to soccer. I'm a devoted student athlete, a committed teammate, and if given the opportunity, will work hard to be the best collegiate athlete I can be.
