2021 Highlights
Kaley Simqu film-...Hello, my name is Kaley Simqu. I am 16 years old and a Junior at Plum Boro High School in Plum Boro, PA.
I’ve been playing soccer since I was 5 years old. I currently play for the Hot Spurs 05 girls Blue team and I also played soccer through ODP. I have attended two ODP ID camps and the summer of 2018 I was put on the top pool team for play during the ID camp. At the end of the camp (out of about 300 girls for the Eastern Region ID camp), I was one of 18 asked to be on the Eastern Regional team to participate in the Interregional friendlies in Boca Raton in November of 2018. That was a really good experience. Our Eastern Regional team won two games tied one and I made a lot of new friends. I was also invited to attend my second ID training camp in Hershey. Not soon after the Hershey ID camp I was selected to be on the Eastern Regional team to participate in the international trip to Iceland in April of 2019. It was a great experience. I met up with some of the girls I played with before and met a few new ones along with meeting some Icelandic soccer players (we played 3 friendlies against 3 different teams and we won 2 games and tied another).
I have played for Hot Spurs since I was five years old. I have also played Plum travel soccer, Plum Junior High Soccer and for the past three years I was a starter on the Plum High School Varsity team as Center back. Our team tied for first place for our WPIAL bracket and for the first time in school history last year made it to the first round of States. Last year our high school team won our section in the WPIAL bracket but lost 1-0 in the final game. Being a starter as a freshman came with a lot of responsibility. Our high school team had only two freshman starters and the majority were juniors and seniors who we played with.
This past summer our Hotspurs team won state cup and advanced to Regionals in New Jersey. We came out winners in New Jersey after some really intense play-off games (semi finals went into PKs and finals went into overtime). We then advanced to Nationals in Florida in July where unfortunately we did not make it to the semi finals but it has been by far a great experience for me and my Hotspurs team. Our Hotspurs team also finished first in our National League bracket securing our team a spot in next year's P.R.O. league.
During the winter season when we will be training for futsal. I have played on several different futsal teams participating in both high school tournaments and with my cup team as well. My various futsal teams have won several tournaments over the years as well as going to Atlantic City 3 times over the last 4 years for the U.S. Futsal Regional Championships.
I can play several positions such as the 4, 5 6 and 8 and all of these positions I have played over the years and feel very comfortable in each one. My current coaches at Hot Spurs are Scott Arnold ([email protected]) and Tom (Tommo) Ovenden ([email protected]). Our team won the WAGS tournament October 2018 playing in the second highest bracket and participated in the GLA and ERL leagues in past years and are in the National League GLC division.
I have also tried out and made the team for the Hotspurs WPSL team. Playing with college graduates has really taught me a lot and I look forward to playing with them in the years to come.
I was selected for the spring season of 2019 (and was selected for the fall (2018) too) to the Great Lakes Conference Best XI teams for our U14 Premier 1 division. Here is the link to check it out: https://www.usyouthsoccer.org/great-lakes-conference-best-xi/
Thank you for this opportunity and for taking your time to read a little about me.
