After being a competitive gymnast for 10 years and winning several state titles as well as a regional title, I have come to understand the necessary focus and dedication that an athlete has to have in order to be successful. When I made the decision to transition back to soccer, the sport that I had grown to love as a kid, I joined a Solar soccer team. As soon as I stepped out on to that field, for the first time in four years, I knew that I had to apply that same determination that I had developed in gymnastics.
Through hard work, practice, and help from my coaches, I became a starter not only for my Solar soccer team but also as a freshman for the Frisco High School JV soccer team. My coach selected me as a captain for the JV team so not only did I get the opportunity to improve my field skills, but I was also challenged by receiving leadership responsibilities. At the end of the season I was awarded Most Valuable Player for the JV team. I was again selected as JV captain my sophomore year but early in the season I was moved up to the varsity team. Even though I wasn’t a starter, I was given 2 awards: Honorable Mention All-District and Academic All-State.
Some of my other passions are in service and leadership. I am currently the President of the Class of 2020 in the National Charity League. This is a mother-daughter philanthropic organization. I am also a Class Leader at Frisco High School this year as well as my freshman year. These opportunities enabled me to understand what it takes to be an effective leader. My favorite charitable activities involve taking care of special needs kids. This is my second year helping teach special needs kids at my church, St. Francis of Assisi. This is something that I absolutely love doing. Overall, I recognize the amount of time and effort that I have to put forth in order to achieve my goal of becoming a college athlete, and I am extremely motivated and determined to do so. My skill as a player, success in the classroom, leadership, and volunteerism will make me a great addition to your team and your university.
