Personal Statement

  • Hey y'all,

  • My name is Emily Seymour and I am a 2022 Right Winger. I currently play for the DKSC (D'feeters Kicks Soccer Club) primarily as a Midfield Wing but I also play anywhere in the forward, midfield, and defense as well and as a forward/ defender at Mckinney Boyd High School. I have been playing soccer for 13 years, playing everywhere on the field since I could. I was a Defender for 5 years exclusively, Midfield for about 2, and Forward for 6, with several more years at each position while playing others at the same time. I have wanted to play at college since I knew that it was possible. I am a very versatile player and work well with anybody I need to. On my previous club team, Sting 04 Cuevas, my coach nominated 3 captains to work together. We were all chosen for different reasons. My two co-captain were chosen for being the ”nice” captain, somebody everybody likes, and the “mean” captain, someone who isn't afraid to call you out on mistakes. The third captain that my coach chose for me is the “most knowledgeable” captain, someone who truly understands the game and is somebody that the team feels can turn to issues regarding the coach or other players. I have taken pride in this and my team often does turn to me to help solve some issues and talk to the coach about game plans and how to accordingly adjust them for the team we have present. On my current team, however, I am currently on my way back into the game from a knee injury and am looking forward to being able to connect with the team more and make my presence known both on and off the field. I have also run cross country previously for 3 years in total. (2 years in Middle School and 1 year Freshman year). I was on varsity my freshman year winning the JV district meet and earning a letterman as well as becoming a regional qualifier. I was sadly unable to continue due to the fact that my previous coach had asked me to choose between cross country and soccer; however, I feel as though this showed my true determination for the sport and dedication to improving in whatever ways I can. All through with all the positives I believe it is important to include some of the negatives as well. I tend to be too hard on myself and have had several coaches tell me that I need to be less hard on myself as sometimes it gets in my head leading to a lack of confidence on and off the field.  I have also completed 3 AP classes including AP US History, AP Physics, and Ap Language. I also completed 2 honors classes this previous year (2020-2021) being Precalculus, and Anatomy all while juggling a job, High school soccer, and club soccer, showing my work ethic. In previous years I have taken around 7 other honors classes and as of this year, I am currently taking 2 dual credit courses as well as a CTE program which will allow me to come out with my personal trainer certification as well as a couple of others that will allow me to have further knowledge about the way our bodies work in exercise and how to strengthen and prevent further injuries from happening in myself and others. Thank you for taking some of your time to read this statement and have a wonderful day.
