Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Megan Sloane and I am 17 years old, I am a Junior at Lynden High School in Lynden, Washington. I was born in Denver, Colorado and was raised between Northern California, South Texas, and the Pacific Northwest. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old. I started club in 2014 for FC Padre Hurricanes. I primarily played an outside forward position during my time with FC Padre. In 2016 the FC Padre Hurricanes became Sting Corpus Christi. I continued playing outside forward and began playing in the attacking mid position. In 2018 I tried out for the South Texas ODP team and represented South Texas at the Region III ODP camp in Alabama. In September of 2018 my father's job relocated my family to the Lynden, Washington and I began playing for the Whatcom Rangers FC. I play forward for my G05 Ranger Gold team, and during high school season I play forward or attacking mid. I believe one of my strengths is being a leader and knowing when to step up and get the job done, while rallying my team to battle to the final whistle. Another strength I posses is that I have experienced different styles of play as I have moved around. In South Texas the game is very physical and fast moving, while in the Pacific Northwest the game is less physical and more focused on strategy. I am very coachable and work constantly to improve my play. I work hard both on and off the field. When I am not playing soccer, I spend my time working on my studies, volunteering for National Honors Society, working part-time at Woods Bakery, or coaching youth sports. While I am looking to play soccer in college, academics will be at the top of my college selection criteria. I am open to most schools, ideally I would like to stay in the Northwest United States.
