At 7, a fellow soccer player convinced me to swim with her for cross-training. My swimming career began and within a month I was asked to train with the regional development group. I was inspired by my parents, coaches and friends to advance to higher levels and at the 2020 Provincial Championship, I reached a defining moment in my swimming career. I was awarded 6 medals for individual events and an Aggregate Award for most points achieved in the 14 and under category. Consistently working hard, driving myself to win against competitors and being part of a supportive team environment greatly contributed to my success.
As I transitioned to the National level of swimming, I continued to focus on improving my skills and pushing myself to achieve results. I recognized that physiotherapy, massage therapy, weight trainers and dieticians were extremely beneficial in attaining my goals. This year was particularly tough to achieve these goals because of COVID restrictions regarding pool space, training time and mental toughness. I continued to persevere and push through my boundaries by being more independent. This included personally scheduling extra dryland training and individual coaching sessions, all while continuing to maintain excellence at school. The result of this additional work has been well worth it. I have not only been ranked 3rd for 100-meter backstroke and 5th for 200-meter backstroke in the Junior Rankings of Canada. This summer, I was also honored to receive the Coachability Award for my club three seasons in a row.
I am looking forward to representing a team and a college/university that aligns with my values and goals. While my ultimate goal is to compete at a World and an Olympic level, I also plan to focus on completing a degree in the Health Sciences field so after swimming I can support young athletes to achieve their goals.
