My family and church have greatly influenced who I am today. Unexpectedly losing my dad at the age of thirteen caused a void in my life. However, it has taught me to persevere and become a much stronger person. I have also learned that life is short and that it is important to go after your dreams. One of my goals is to complete my college degree and one day start my own business. For my junior year, my goal during high school swim season is to attain my Junior National hard cut times and to make the top eight in CIF.
Swimming has challenged me, taught me to be a team player, and has allowed me to make incredible friendships with my teammates. Some things that I bring to a team are my kind and encouraging words. When one of my teammates wants to give up I tell them in the kindest way that they will never be stronger if they quit. My coach views me as respectful towards him, a good example, and a role model to my teammates which I find important. Swimming has helped me with life skills. For example, when my coach corrects me, I do not take it personally, but rather with a teachable attitude to improve myself. There will be times in life when we feel like giving up. My parents have taught me to always finish what I start and that quitting is not an option.
