I started swimming when I was nine. The week before tryouts for the team, my dad took me and my sister to a lake and taught us how to swim. Going into tryouts I still couldn't swim butterfly, do flip turns, or swim breaststroke. With determination and a passion for swimming, I was able to greatly improve my swimming. At the age of 14, I had a club team record in the 50 breast and was fourth in the league for the 50 butterfly despite swimming only three days a week. As a freshman at Tamalpais High School, I was one of two freshmen to go to NCS. I also qualified for NCS in cross country freshman year. I swam the 50 breast in the medley relay, and qualified for the second day of MCAL'S in my 100 breast.
After playing various sports throughout middle school, freshman year was the first time I swam five days per week, and it paid off with me dropping six seconds in my 100 breast that year. The first meet back sophomore year, I dropped a second off my 100 breast time from the prior year champs. Sadly, the rest of the season was canceled due to COVID-19. We were able to have a short swim season this year and I swam a 1:08.5, competing against the boys. I hope to have the opportunity to swim in more meets this summer, where I can hopefully compete against some swimmers who will push me. I am still growing, have yet to do drylands or lift weights, and am getting faster and faster. I think the 200 breaststroke may end up being my best race and I look forward to competing in college.
