Hello, my name is Isabel Gallegos. I am currently a 9th grader (class of 2026) at Wilmer Amina Carter High School. I started to swim when I was in 3rd grade and have loved it ever since. I have always wanted to swim competitively. When I was about 10, I had already known that I wanted to swim throughout my life, even in college. Swimming has helped me become who I am now and I am very grateful for that. I wasn't much of a flyer or a backstroke. For a while now I have noticed that I am specially good at breaststroke and free. Of course, I am improving more and more everyday.
Academically, I have always had straight A's. Currently, I have a 4.0 GPA. Throughout the years, I have learned how to balance my school work with my practices. I was also very involved with the school. I was in about 2 plays in elementary school and I have also loved theatre ever since. Along with theatre, I have been a Girl Scout since kindergarten. In my free time, I like to listen to music and read. I also like to hang out with my team. They are very supportive of me and my achievements. I have been with them for so long they are like family to me.
As a kid I would always dream about being in the Olympics. It has been a life long goal of mine. I was also a Michael Phelps super-fan. I have read 2 of his books and used some of his quotes as inspiration. Now that I am older, I can see what he was talking about and kind of experience how he felt. Lately I have been challenging myself in any way possible. Whether it's not eating that donut or swimming the 400 IM at a meet. I want to push myself to be the best as much as I can be.
