Dear Coach,

My name is Key Gonzalez, a dedicated and driven swimmer from Swim Torrance and North High School in Torrance, California. I specialize in mid to long distance freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke, and the individual medley. In addition to pool swimming, I enjoy long distance (5k and 1.5 mile) open water swimming. I’ve developed as a versatile and consistent competitor, and I’m excited to continue my growth at the collegiate level.

Over the past three years, I’ve made significant strides across all strokes and distances, fueled by a focused training regimen, commitment to technical refinement, and the competitive environment provided by both my high school and club teams. Here’s a snapshot of my progress:

Freestyle

• SCY 500 Free: 5:14.57 (2025 AZ RIO Meet) — Improved by 15.51 seconds in three years.
• LCM 400 Free: 4:45.42 (2025 CA CITI Summer Sizzler) — Dropped an impressive 21.23 seconds.

Backstroke

• SCY 200 Back: 2:16.20 (2023 CA TORR Spooky Splash) — A notable 12.41-second drop.
• LCM 100 Back: 1:13.88 (2025 CA CITI Summer Sizzler) — A steady gain of 3.51 seconds.

Breaststroke

• SCY 100 Breast: 1:10.61 (2024 CA CANY Cranberry Classic) — Gained strength with an 8-second improvement.
• LCM 100 Breast: 1:23.23 — Showing consistent development with a 6.99-second drop.

Butterfly

• SCY 200 Fly: 2:09.08 (2023 CA Kevin Perry Invitational) — Shaved 13.46 seconds from previous best.
• LCM 200 Fly: 2:27.76 (2023 CA SCS/CITI Summer Age Group Championships) — Improved by 10.42 seconds.

Individual Medley

• SCY 400 IM: 4:37.56 (2024 CA Winter Championships) — A standout improvement of 26.12 seconds.
• LCM 400 IM: 5:25.83 (2023 CA SCS/CITI Championships) — Progressed by 18.53 seconds.

What sets me apart is my steady improvement across every discipline, adaptability in events, and passion for competition and team culture. Whether anchoring relays, competing in high-stakes invitationals, or grinding through training cycles, I always bring effort, energy, and a team-first mindset.

I’m looking for a program where I can continue to develop both as an athlete and student, contribute to the team’s success, and push my limits alongside like-minded teammates and coaches.
