Personal Statement
Hi coaches, my name is Megan Corcoran. I reside in Pensacola, Fl, and swim for TNT swimming, Daphne, AL. Growing up in a military family has allowed me to experience different swim clubs and coaching styles throughout the country. I started swimming at the age of six with the Wichita Swim Club, Wichita, KS. As we moved for my father's military service, I had the opportunity to swim with clubs in Baton Rouge, LA (Crawfish and Tiger Aquatics), Estero, FL (Gulf Coast Swim Team), and now Pensacola, FL. I have even been fortunate to swim with a club in Madison, WI, while visiting my family over the holidays. I am very thankful for having the opportunity to experience different clubs and coaching styles. Since my first swim lesson, I have been in love with the sport.
Since I was younger, I have been very goal oriented. I always seek to raise the bar to achieve and exceed my self-set goals. My current plan is to take my swimming to the “next level” after my current club years are over. What “next level” means to me is at the collegiate level. I realize there is still much work to be done to achieve collegiate-level swimming. However, I am focused on continuous improvement through hard work and discipline in and out of the water. My continued improvement is intended to be a better swimmer, a recruitable college athlete, and a contributor to the team.
My positive mental outlook and support from family, teammates, and coaches have helped me to develop into a confident young adult, a successful student, and a stronger athlete. I have learned the importance of a powerful positive mindset and how it helps me get through complex sets and races. Understanding that has encouraged me to help create a more positive space during practice and competition for my teammates and myself.
My interest in a college swim program is a hybrid of education, competition, and team. I know that combining all three qualities provides the best environment for me to contribute and grow as a student, athlete, and teammate. Furthermore, assisting me in ultimately becoming a contributing member of my college, community, and country.
Thank you,
Megan
