My name is Mia Chen. I have been swimming competitively for the past 9 years. My passion for swimming started at an early age, from the kiddie pool to the olympic-sized pool where I spend most of my days training. I’ve always enjoyed being in the water.
I aspire to swim competitively at a collegiate-level while also continuing with my academic studies. I aim to prepare myself physically and mentally in order to be a well- rounded individual.
I work hard year-round, competing in many Mexican National events. I even had the privilege of representing Mexico in the 2022 CCCAN International Swimming Championships in Barbados. This year (2023) will be my 3rd time qualifying for competing at the Nacionales CONADE (Mexico National Sports Commission) in my best events: 50 free, 50 breast and 50 fly. I consider myself a sprinter.
I grew up in a multicultural environment and it's one of the greatest gifts I have received in my life. Both my parents are Taiwanese. My mom grew up in Argentina and I was born in the USA but am currently living in Mexico. I believe that this has made me more resilient and empathetic, as I have consistently had to adapt to different cultures.
I believe discipline is fundamental to achieving greatness. Some days are harder than others, but keeping myself motivated by thinking about all the hard work I've put in for the past years and the incredible amount of support I've received from my loved ones is what keeps me moving forward. I would like to work harder in order to improve my performance level as a student athlete. And as a team player that also means serious commitment to the group, always pushing ourselves as a whole to give our best every day.
