Having fun is as important as winning competitions. I like to inspire team members to drive themselves, encouraging them to work hard, helping others to problem solve in response to their individual challenges both for their own personal gain as well as for that of the team. I am currently the captain of all of the teams that I currently swim with, and I look forward in college to continuing to refine my swimming skills as well as my team building skills.
I have learned that I really enjoy competition, I strive harder because I want to excel. I have broadened my abilities by tackling different strokes that were more challenging initially. At this point, I feel I do not have an off stroke. Focusing on my challenges has helped me round out my skills, which I have enjoyed because now I am able to compete in many different events. Participating in team sports teaches you early that having a good life balance is important to success in all aspects of your life. I have had to learn time management, how to push myself and how to become more efficient so that I can excel both in my academic work as well as in my competitions. I look forward to the challenges that college level academic work will bring, and I believe that as a part of my new team, I will not only demonstrate my willingness to adapt and push myself, but also to propel the team forward so that we all succeed.
