You may be surprised to learn this Minnesota high schooler started making waves not at the cabin, but half a country away in the Florida surf and poolside prior to preschool. While playing in the water was fun, dance had been my passion, and I enjoyed a few short years with an amazing friend before my family moved to Minnesota. By the time I competed in my first state meet in elementary school, I had already spent more time in the pool than on the dance floor. By March 2021, I earned a Bronze Medal in my age bracket by scoring 473.4 points in the YMCA North Central Regional Meet, which included placing 4th in 100 Free, 3rd in 100 Fly, 3rd in 400 IM, 4th in 50 Free, 6th in 500 Free, 3rd in 200 IM, and 4th in 100 Back. My next goal is to compete at YMCA Nationals during my senior year of high school.
In terms of my high school swimming career, I swam JV my 7th grade year and I've swam Varsity every year since. I have been willing to swim where the team has needed me instead of specializing in one stroke. For example, as a Freshman I was the youngest swimmer and anchored several free and medley relays in addition to scoring 4th in 100 free at 4AA sections. Having to sit out sections my Sophomore year because of injury was really difficult to deal with; in the previous year I had improved and made so much progress. Having to watch everyone else improve their Freestyle while not making it through an entire practice myself was hard. So when our team needed more depth in Backstroke this year I jumped at the opportunity to work my way back to sections. I started focusing on Backstroke in October and within a month my personal best improved to 1:03. I am confident I can get that time to under a minute during my senior season. With both of my teams, I enjoy mentoring younger swimmers and competing in events as a team player. I look forward to finding a college swim team that values working hard, competing strongly, and celebrating victories earned in and out of the pool.
