Personal Statement
My name is Bianca Candelaria, and I am interested in academic and athletic opportunities for college. At an early age I was involved in softball, gymnastics, and swimming. However, after my first swim meet, the only sport I could see my self-pursuing is swimming. My love for the water and competition is unparalleled and it has increased to the point where I know that I want to swim competitively throughout my college years. My mom was a swimmer and swam in college at Oregon State, which has helped me understand the commitments, dedication and sacrifices' to achieve top-level performance. I am a very coachable, self-driven athlete. I believe that swimming is not only about the physical ability but also the mental agility. I love the team environment as well as the individual aspect of the sport. It's not just the competition against other swimmers but it’s the competition against your own time.
Through my years of swimming, I have gained many leadership skills. Which has led me to become captain of my high school swim team as a junior. When participating in other activities, I enjoy taking an active role in which I can help guide and influence others to preform to the best of their ability.
One of my academic goals for high school is to continue to take high-level courses while maintaining my position on the honor roll, at a college level I will study engineering to solve problems and create solutions that can help and positively influence others. At this point I will be taking my ACT in February, however my PreACT score was a 26 without a prep course.
