Since age 8, swimming has played a big role in my life on many levels. It has taught me to be patient, understanding of process and goals, dedication, leadership, and most importantly being a good teammate. Just like any other sport swimming takes a lot out of a person physically and mentally. In order to succeed in swimming I have had to get through the mental and physical blocks and that can be hard. I have encountered this issue several times in my swimming career. And weirdly enough that is why I like swimming, getting through hard mental blocks feels rewarding in the end. This is why I have stuck with swimming because the best feeling is the reward at the end of a long season.
Another reason I enjoy swimming is the team aspect of things. Over the years I of being on a swim team, I have built many close friendships. Not only do I have close bonds with people, I also crave the competition that comes with it. Being a part of a team is the best feeling. This is because you have unity, competition, and people to help you be a better, well rounded person. From helping people with school work to being a good listener, it has taught me that making time for others gives me a sense of fulfillment. Overall, I am different because of what swimming has taught me throughout my life, and I look forward to an opportunity to continue on a collegiate team.
