Personal Statement
My goal is to swim at a college that will challenge me both academically and athletically. My strong academics, 10 years of competitive swimming, extracurricular activities, and leadership skills have helped shape me into the person I am today. I thrive in the team environment. My swim team is my second family and we support, encourage, and challenge each other every day.
I feel privileged to be on the National Team of the Ohio State Swim Club, a Silver Medal Club, that has developed many swimmers who have/are competing at top level colleges. I believe I would be a great asset to a college team due to my hard work ethic, perseverance, being an active and supportive team player, and responsiveness to coaching instruction. I am always willing to learn and know that there is always room for improvement and growth. My strongest aspects of swimming include: my starts, turns, underwaters, and sprints. One of my favorite swim memories was when I anchored our 200 free relay at our high school league championship. We were 2 body lengths behind and my relay start was able to close the gap and my turn and underwaters sealed the deal and we out-touched our rival team.
I have been a 2 time state finalist in the 50 free at the Ohio High School State Championships and have competed at the NASA meets in Florida and Virginia (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly). Our 200 medley relay placed 2nd this past year (I anchored and swam a 23.48). I have also competed in the 200 free relay at Winter Junior Nationals in 2017. I have also qualified for the Future Championships in the 50 free and 100 fly.
Outside of the pool, my experience as freshman and sophomore class president has given me the ability to communicate well with coaches and teammates, encourage others, and be a leader and an ambassador for my team. I am eager to find a swim team that would be a great fit for me and look forward to sharing my talent, enthusiasm, and ambition with that team.
