When I began swimming on a club team, I realized that this was the sport that I wanted to pursue and excel in. Over the past 5 years I have gained so much knowledge from phenomenal coaches that has not only helped me to improve my swimming but also my character. I have the opportunity to swim under Coach Stanton Wright III who has produced NCAA Champions and American record holders. He has taught me what it takes to swim in college. I have learned techniques like pulling all the way back and bending my knees a little more when I kick. I have learned to practice these things over and over to produce not only a fast swim but a good technical swim when I am racing.
This school year I am the captain of my high school team. Through this position, I have been able to exercise great leadership and communication skills. This school year I am also highly focused on academics and maintaining my 4.0 GPA. Through swimming I have been able to learn time management skills to be able to finish homework and assignments as well as getting rest and good nutrition throughout the day.
If I have the opportunity to swim in college, I would be able to further the things that I learn and contribute to the team. I believe that I would be able to bring an air of readiness and hard work but also help to create a good environment for myself and my teammates.
