Personal Statement
My name is Sarah E. Chandler born in McKinney, Texas and currently living in Brownsville, Texas. I am a senior in high school attending Saint Joseph Academy this upcoming 2018-2019 school year with a May 2019 graduation and will be living with my Father in Brownsville, Texas. I attended Sharyland High School located in Mission, Texas my Freshman thru Junior year at which time I was living with my Mother. I have an objective to be an active student-athlete in college and swim competitively at the collegiate level so I decided to move to Brownsville, Texas with my Dad for coaching and academic support and guidance. I believe my sense of competitiveness, hard work and drive comes from my Dad who introduced me to swimming at an early age. My sense of fair play and compassion is definitely comes from my Mom. I am lucky to have a strong support group surrounding me and wishing me the best on anything I set out to do. I understand I must work hard and focus to be an outstanding student academically and elite athlete. I have played various sports in Junior High but decided to stick with Swimming as I was good at it and enjoy the competitiveness of the sport. My passion in swimming is mid and distance freestyle but frequently ask by HS Coach to swim the 100Back, 100Fly and 200IM for various HS swim events. I qualified for the varsity HS swimming team since my freshman year and elected by peers as Captain of the Swim Team my Junior year. I also swim with Mission Marlin Swim Team between 2015 & 2017 and in 2018 transferred to Brownsville Aquatics as an unattached USA swimmer. I have accumulated 3.00 GPA and expect to obtain honor roll throughout my senior year in high school. I am attempting to maintain a high academic standard by managing the Honor Roll and Texas Scholar while taking AP classes my Senior Year of High School. I have competed and made 1st team all-District and 1st team all Regional 8-5A. I trained with USA Swimming re-known Coach of the Year - Ray Mitchell in 2010 - 2012. I also played competitively in the varsity Water Polo Team which won District and Regionals and went on to 2nd place at State during my Freshman and Sophomore years. I have joined and participated in extra-curriculum school activities while in high-school like Debate, Theater Class and talent shows and outside of school I participated in humanitarian work with my Mom for under privilege people living in Honduras for 12 months in my 8th grade in Junior High in 2014 - 2015 school year.
I am working hard in high school to continue to manage above a 3.50 GPA while taking AP classes. I will be joining both the high school swim team and club swimming to work hard in my swimming disciplines while competing in both HS meets and regional US swimming competitions. My goal is to drop swimming times and at least obtain AA times in the 200 and 500 free events. I am willing to work hard in both the classroom and the pool to obtain these goals for the 2018-2019 school year. I am looking for a college environment in which I can be groomed and developed to succeed both academically and athletically. My objective is to find and get accepted into a strong college and athletic infrastructure that drives student-athlete like me to exceed expectations in the classroom and in the pool which I believe goes hand in hand.
I know I must work harder in driving down my swim times over the next year in order to fall within swimming competitive range and I am focusing in that as we speak. For the next year my focus will be to manage at least a 3.5 GPA, continue to improve my SAT above a 1200 and ACT above a 24 versus my current scores and drive down swimming times below 2.02 on 200Y free and 5:27 on 500Y free. I look forward in you all continuing to watch me and follow me as I progress in exceeding these goals.
I am leaning in studying and obtaining a degree in Business with a university with an outstanding academic reputation. Ideally, I would love to be in an athletic environment where I could contribute and understandably willing to put the time and effort to meet the challenges imposed by the academic and sports curriculum. My preference is to be recruited by a College with a high academic power ranking and one that offers my plan of study. I believe the career studies to pursue are: Business Management, Finance & Banking, or Sports Management

I understand that there are many other Division schools out there who offer as good an academic and swim programs that I may not be aware of or heard off; so I am always willing and open to meet and see other schools that value education, sports, tradition and is willing to take the time to teach me, guide me and show me new things that will make me a better student and athlete.
