I first started swimming when I was 6, and now swimming is an integral part of my identity today. Swimming has helped me get through the toughest times in my life and continues to play a big role in my continued success even during this pandemic. For me, swimming has always been about community and life skills. Being a part of my swim team has given me so many opportunities to be a leader and a role model for other swimmers. When I am not at school or at practice, you can find me on deck or in the pool helping the coach with practice. Whether in the water helping with technique, reminding younger kids how to read the clock, or leading early arrives in mobility and dryland before their practice, I am always seeking opportunities to get involved and to connect with other members on the team I don't get to practice with. At meets, when I am not preparing to race, I am on deck cheering for my teammates, or volunteering, ready to fill whatever role needed. I have been team captain of my club swim team for the past 2 years, creatively finding ways to keep the team connected during the pandemic. I can always find creative solutions to any problem I face. All of the lessons I have learned from swimming have helped me in school and in regular life. I approach challenges with an open mindset and enthusiasm. In school, I take classes that I am passionate about, push my boundaries and ways of thinking, and bring about a new perspective. I have a growth mindset and will bring inclusion, positivity, and strong leadership to your team.
