I learned how to swim between the 4th and 5th grades. During lessons, I would see the club kids’ practice on the other side of the pool. I told my parents that I was going to be on the swim team before I even learned basic freestyle. I started Club just like I said I was going to the fall of my 5th-grade year. For my first few years of swimming I didn’t really take it all that seriously, it was more fun than anything. Then in the spring of 7th grade after Junior High season I realized that I could be a good athlete if I put my best effort in. I started lifting and going to the senior group morning practice in addition to evening practice, worked on building better bonds with the team, and that helped a lot in building me up as an athlete. I focused on my technique and how I was moving through the water. This first little bit of giving swimming my all helped me zero in on my goals for the sport. I am very happy to say that I have surpassed my original goals and continue to adjust and change my goals season to season. On top of swimming, I am involved in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), orchestra, NHS (National Honors Society), FIRST Robotics, youth group, youth worship, and I teach swim lessons/life guard. I love having different things to push myself in. Although this can be stressful at times, I have found that it helps me be excited to do the things I love.
