I love the sport of tennis. Growing up as a multi-sport athlete, I learned to appreciate the uniqueness and versatility tennis brings. I love the exposure it offers in problem solving, mental toughness, and perseverance-- all qualities needed in the real world. I started playing at the age of five under the coaching of my mother, who was a former collegiate player/coach. I have had aspirations of playing college tennis since I was little, but only recently began to intentionally work toward that goal. In the past 3 1/2 years, my mom and I have made the effort to practice on a much more regular basis and play/travel to more tournaments. I feel that through the past years, I have experienced much growth in my game, as well as in my mental state of mind, which I struggled with for a while.
I credit much of my growth to my relationship with Jesus Christ. Through my faith in Him, I have been able to appreciate the great experiences tennis has to offer, rather than focusing on the pressures it seemingly presented. I have learned that in order to improve, I should not just look to my own abilities, but instead seek the will of God in all things (Romans 8:28). I would love to attend a Christian college and continue to pursue and grow in my faith.
I believe that I would be a great addition to a college tennis team, as I have a genuine passion for the sport and am a good team player. I try my best in both practices and competition, and I'm always willing to grow and improve. I'm also a good student and an eager learner. I am involved in various extracurricular activities such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, orchestra, track & field, and my church youth group. I feel that being involved in college athletics is a great way to get integrated into new communities and make lasting memories/friendships. I am greatly looking forward to my college experience and all that it will bring.
