I began playing tennis seriously at age 11, because my dad started teaching me when I showed interest, and I found I truly enjoyed playing tennis. Since then, it has been my dream to play at the college level.
Since I got what some might consider a late start in learning to play tennis seriously, I have had to accelerate my learning of the sport over the past year in order to succeed. I think despite my late introduction, I have gained and improved my tennis skills significantly and quickly. I am proficient in ball placement and have been increasing the speed of my serve.
Being a part of my high school team has helped me to become attracted to the competitive setting, and I want to continue experiencing competition after high school. I have always been a dedicated student, consistently earning excellent grades and maintaining a high GPA. Since starting as a freshman in high school, I have also been regularly involved in other activities that make me a well-rounded student, such as performing in my school’s Pep Band and in the Flute Choir. For several years, I was also a student servant at the church my family attends.
My involvement in tennis has not been and will not be a burden. I am serious about committing myself to both school and sports, and would be grateful for any opportunity to achieve and succeed in both. I would like to attend a college that is a good fit for me, where I can aim as high as possible both in the classroom and on the court.
