Crystal Zhou '21 Recruiting Profile

Dear Coaches,

            Hello, my name is Crystal Zhou, I am currently a junior at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) in Austin, Texas. My academic interests lie in the medical field, and I’m looking for a school that is strong in both academic and tennis areas.

LASA is one of the top STEM high schools in the nation (#6) as well as the fifth-best high school in Texas.  It has been especially demanding to maintain a high GPA in this challenging academic environment as well as continue progressing in intensive tennis training. However, I developed time management skills and focus. I believe that I would be an incredibly strong asset to your team.

Currently, my GPA is 4.1, and my ACT score is 32, I’m still preserving to get a better ACT score in the spring. My USTA ranking for 18’s is 34 in Texas and I have an 8.4 UTR. Due to the competitive school academic program, I can only play one tournament a month. I believe my UTR score could be much higher if I had the opportunity to play more tournaments. 

The main weapon in my game is my forehand and backhand down-the-line. I am exceptionally good at constructing points - especially with my inside-out-forehand - but executing the finishing shot is a work in progress. My forehand is easily my biggest shot and consistently helps me with point construction. My backhand down-the-line also helps with dictating a point and allows me to run around to my forehand more often. I do recognize that the areas that I need more attention are my footwork and explosiveness. Focusing on improving my fitness will considerably improve my game. At the moment, I’m working on my legs by doing plyometrics and jump-roping after practice.

Overall, I would say that I’m most reliable in attitude, effort, and enthusiasm that I display on-court. When I come on, no matter how dreadful the day was, I continue to give my everything to the best of my ability and maintain a positive attitude.

Go to an incredibly rigorous school and maintained a 4.1 GPA.

It has previously been ranked the top public high school in Texas

Last year, LASA was ranked 16th of all high schools in America

This year LASA is ranked 6^th STEM high school in America

Taking 6 AP courses in Junior Year focusing on STEM related areas.

Offered to be the teaching assistant for Pre AP-Chemistry class in my senior year.
