I have been throwing javelin since I was a freshman in high school at Holy Spirit Catholic School. When I first began throwing, my small private high school track and field team didn't have a coach for throwing or anyone to teach me how to throw. Instead, I had an old javelin that I found in the storage closet, the internet, and a hunger for success. Even though that year was hard, it was the year that made me dream to throw at the college level. My Mom noticed my passion for throwing and bought me my own javelin for Christmas that winter.
In my sophomore year of throwing, my track and field team won state, and we finally got a throwing coach. This encouraged other female athletes to come and throw with us. I struggled in the beginning because I wasn't accustomed to having a coach tell me what to do versus just figuring it out. I quickly learned that a good coach was a huge resource for me if I would listen and take full advantage of their expertise. I also learned that I won't always be the best in the room, and if I am, I am in the wrong room.
I am a two-sport athlete, Basketball and Track and Field. In both sports, I never let anyone tell me that I am not capable of doing anything. Instead, I like to prove them wrong through my performance. I am a team player, and I encourage the people around me to never quit because we all need that motivation from time to time. I am coachable, and I like to assist my coaches by helping in any way I can. I work hard to meet goals, and I keep pushing until I reach them.
As a student-athlete, I not only strive for success on the field and court, I strive to maintain my grades in all classes and to achieve a good GPA. I was given my school's honors award and won first place in my school science fair and took second place at the regional science fair in 2020. In addition, I had the honor of being published in an online magazine called Stone Soup.
I’m no stranger to hard work. During the summer of 2022, I worked part-time in a local dental office filing and shredding old records. During the summer of 2023, I worked full-time as a Jr. Counselor at YMCA Camp Cosby. My parents have encouraged me to try different things and to find value in hard work and earning my own money.
My goal is to find the best college for me. The best college for me is a place where I can push myself to be MY best on the field and in the classroom. While I’m not 100% of what I want to study in college, I am leaning toward business school. I hope to prove that I have what it takes to be a college athlete and exceed your expectations.
