My name is Emma Cannan and I am a sixteen year old athlete from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Sports have always been an integral ptart of my life. Being involved with various sports from an early age has taught me a lot about life and the importance of hard work, dedication and how to get back up when you fall down. It's also helped me to develop my leadership skills. Being busy with ice hockey, I never saw myself as a track & field athlete until 2017 when I decided to join my middle school track & field team for extra training. That year I set three Okanagan Valley records (Regional) and moved on to the British Columbia High School Track & Field Championships (Provincials). It was at this competition that track changed my life. I walked away as a provincial champion with two gold medals (200m, 400m) and a silver in the 100m. Ever since that day, my heart has been dedicated to the sport. That year I joined my local club, Okanagan Athletics and competed at the Canadian Nationals where I walked away with a 6th and 5th place finish. I am also a member of my high schools Senior Girls AAA Field Hockey Team where we came 4th at Provincials in my rookie year as a starting forward. Since then, I have continued to improve as shown by my performances at the 2018 Nationals where I placed 4th in the U16 200m and 300m events. Most recently, at the 2019 Nationals I placed 3rd in both the 100m and 200m events in the U18 category. As well as the 2019 BC High School Track and Field Championships placing 1st in 4 events and setting 2 new BC High School Records. Outside of sports, I have a passion for nature. Whenever I can, I make sure I take some time to enjoy the beauty of our would and adventure with my family. I love to go camping, hang out with friends and play the piano.
