Personal Statement

Hello,

I have been running since I was 7 years old and through those years the goal was to gradually improve while staying healthy. I enjoy learning more about running, and applying what I learn to be a better well rounded athlete. I believe my dedication, willingness to work hard/smart over time is what best describes me as an athlete, I firmly believe my 2-3% improvement year over year in my various distances supports my work ethic.

I have always been a very supportive and encouraging person, one of the most challenging part this last year was when I transferred from Newbury Park High school to Camarillo High School, and because of CIF rules I had to sit out for one month for each sport. While it was discouraging not to compete with my team and help them, I was there at every practice, at every meet pushing and encouraging them. The last two years I have volunteered to help coach the Camarillo Cosmos girls youth track & field group that I was also a part of prior to High School in order to give back and share what I have learned.

For the 2023-24 cross country and track seasons, my goal is to run under 18 minutes for 3 miles, 2:20 for the 800, 11:20 for the 3200 and 5:15 for the 1600.

XC didn't go as well, with my best time of 19:18 as I was sick for most of the second half of the season with the flu.

My winter track season is off to a good start, recently (Jan 6th) running a 600 in 1:47.18 and qualifying for the Arcadia Winter Championships.  Just last weekend (Jan 13) I also qualified for the 1500 with a 5:17.36.  I ended up running a 1:49 (600) and a 5:13 (1500) at the Championship meet.  Recently we had our inter squad meet and I ran the 400 for fun, not much of a speed runner, but I ran a 64 sec 400. At one of our league meets I ran the 800 in 2:29 which was a 3 second PR for me and on 3/22/24 at the Simi Valley Invitational I ran the 1600 in 5:30.8 which was a 5 second PR for me.

Academically I believe that I am a relatively successful student. I'm consistent with my grades being A's and B's and I try hard to complete good quality assignments. How I do in school is very important to me, as it will give me more opportunities in the future to potentially open my own business and overall go far as a person.

I am determined and want to keep competing at the college level while being balanced with my academics, I want to join a school and a program that values and recognizes what I bring to the table as a student/athlete.  It is important to find a program that I believe in and they believe in me and my potential now and in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me! And I look forward to hearing from you.

Training

  • My training plan over the years has had a format of: 2 Training Runs, 1 easy run, 1 speed workout, 1 tempo and 1 long run. Current weekly mileage is between 35-45 miles. Every so often I will double up on my easy days with a morning run and an evening run to increase miles without too much distance at once.
