Personal Statement

Embarking on the collegiate journey is a profound aspiration for me, both academically and athletically. As a dedicated runner with dreams of competing in college, my goal is to contribute not only to the team's success but also to excel in my studies, majoring in Kinesiology or a related field. I am seeking a scholarship opportunity in one of the colleges that align with my academic and athletic ambitions.

My journey in running began in the fourth grade, and it has been a continuous and unwavering passion since then. Moving from Mexico to the United States with my family at the age of four, I found solace and purpose in the rhythm of my footsteps on the track. Middle school marked my integration into the high-school team, practicing alongside my older brother. Transitioning to high school running, I earned a place in Varsity and proudly emerged as the team's Most Valuable Runner, a testament to my commitment and hard work.

Academically, I have maintained a 4.0 GPA since my freshman year, showcasing my dedication to excellence in the classroom. Despite facing challenges with my knees since middle school, I have persevered, continually seeking improvement and undergoing physical therapy to enhance my condition. My resilience in the face of adversity demonstrates my commitment to overcoming obstacles for the pursuit of my goals.

A defining moment in my athletic journey occurred during the 2023 Heart Award, a testament to my character and sportsmanship. In a critical 3-mile race at Mount Sac, poised to achieve my best PR of the season, I made a conscious decision to prioritize the well-being of a teammate over personal accomplishment. When a teammate fell to the ground from sheer exhaustion, I halted my race approximately 100 meters before the finish line. My actions went beyond the pursuit of personal records; they reflected a deep sense of camaraderie and selflessness. Awarded the Heart Award, I carry this experience as a reminder that values such as teamwork and empathy are equally significant in the world of sports.

In the competitive realm of collegiate athletics and academics, I bring a unique perspective as someone who has navigated different cultures and challenges. I am confident that my dedication, resilience, and genuine passion for both running and learning will make me a valuable asset to your team and an exemplary candidate for your esteemed institution. I am ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges that college life presents, driven by the belief that success is not only measured in personal achievements but in the positive impact one can have on the team and the community. I am excited about the prospect of contributing to the legacy of your program and pursuing excellence both on the track and in the classroom.
