Since I was a child, I have always had such a passion for sports and athletics. Growing up, I tried many sports, from ice skating to tennis to track and field. In fact, for about 8 years of my childhood going into the first year of high school, I stuck with the sport of tennis. However, I never felt a true connection to it. It seemed more that I was being influenced by the older children around me, who constantly persuaded me to stick with it because I was supposedly ”good” at it. When I was in middle school, I took part in multiple USATF track and field meets that were being held near me, which ultimately became my first glance at the sport of track. After participating in one year on my school’s tennis team, I decided why not to try out for track to see how it goes. A few years prior, I mostly took part in sprinting and jumping events, as I felt that they captured my fiery, bold personality. However, my freshman year season completely changed everything. When I first began hurdles, I was very hesitant and mostly intimidated by my peers. It truly did take time to adjust to the event, but I believe that taking part in hurdles transformed myself into a much stronger, capable, and mentally tough athlete. Therefore, although I may be required to face injuries and sacrifice other parts of my life to my sport, I absolutely love the path I have chosen to take across high school and I would be honored to continue this path throughout the next years of my life, playing a role in both my future and the lives of the people around me.
