Kera Deakins '13 Recruiting Profile

Hello,

My name's Kera Deakins and I dream of becoming a collegiate Track runner. I've always known I wanted to do a sport in college but I wasn't completely sure until recently. I played soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis; and I never really had that much of a desire to persue any of them, that is until I started running. 

When I started running, which was only two seasons ago, I knew that was what I was meant to do. I had always been fast but was always told being on a sports team that works together to score a goal or make a basket is the most fun; they were so wrong. It was track that made me feel the most proud and most successful.

When I looked up at my time after my race, I'd say to myself, "That was all you. No one passed the ball to you, no one ran for you, that was all you." I loved it. I loved knowing that I pushed through all the pain on my own, that every step to that finish line was my own, and all those hours of practice paid off. The feeling at the beginning of a race is the best part though; looking at the people next to me and knowing they don't want it more than I do. 

I'm a very competitive person and don't like to lose. I'm out there to compete and be the best I can be. I've always wanted to win, and track has given me the opportunity to win not just for my team, or my coach, but for myself.
