2023 SpotlightI ran my first track meet when I was in seventh grade. At that time, I was a club soccer player, soccer being my passion. In eighth grade, I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (ITP), which means my immune system was mistakenly destroying my platelets. With this condition, I was not allowed to play contact sports. My doctor cured my condition when I was fifteen. However, I decided not to play soccer again and instead devoted myself to track and field. I have been a member of my high school's varsity track team since freshman year. I started out running the 200m and the 400m, while also doing long and triple jump. It wasn't until my junior year that I began practicing and competing in high jump. At my first track meet after only one practice, I jumped 4'6". Since then, I have been hooked on high jump. I recently jumped 5'0" at the Beaumont Cougar Classic after training non-stop during the off season.
I believe in leading by example and helping those who need it. I am a positive and ethical team player who does not talk ill of other people. Since I've been old enough, I have volunteered every summer as a camp counselor for children ten and under. My goal is to attend a university where I can compete on a track and field team. After completing a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, I plan on going to grad school for physical therapy.
